PHILOSOPHY
It is the art of thinking, the art
of asking things. According to my teacher back in college, it is the love of
wisdom. Since it is philosophy, let me ask you what is wisdom? If you don’t
know the answer, here it is, it is your ability to choose what is right and
what is wrong. It’s the ability to differentiate the truth from a lie and vice
versa. Choosing between wrong and right seems easy, but still, there are many
who chose the wrong way. You tend to believe that the “wrong” was the right, even
if it’s wrong. The wrong can never be right and right can never be wrong. They
are disjoint and separated like 2 phases of a coin.
I remember the theory of duality
that states, everything in this world is made up of 2 things: the opposites.
There’s this night and day, good and evil, light and dark, intelligent and
stupid, rich and poor, happy and sad, and many more. These things are there to be
recognized but even though it seems very clear and understandable... many
people cling into the wrong way. Some might be standing between two corners in
which one walk in holy and some walk in the opposite. But, how can you be holy
in a world stained with sin? Well, as you believe to God through Jesus Christ-
walk into his path all the day of your life, then, you are holy.
The topic of philosophy really goes
back to “God.” Since philosophy is the art of questions and all questions don’t
have answer because indeed we walk with this limitation that we can’t grasp. In
philosophy, you start to ask the origin of the universe, the beginning of the
earth and mankind, the species and many things. You start to ask about yourself
things in this world, seen and unseen. Almost everything we ask nowadays are
actually answered through scientific explanation. Scientist tries to prove
everything we ask by showing it to the audience or try to grasp the question
and put in box. They try to reason out with their procedures and systematic
approach. They have succeeded in different aspects of life in terms of making
life easier through invention, improving health condition, understanding human
behaviour, anatomy of living things and so on. Indeed, there are many things
science had contributed and rediscovered. Scientist even deduced the origin of
the universe through “Big-Bang,” and a lot more! Yet in my reflection, in a way
science had tried to grasp and unravel the world, it seems like it so
procedural and is focused more on logical thinking and coming up with
real-proof. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. It’s a good thing yet I’m afraid
that we may lose our “being human” that can’t be systematized nor put in a box
to be analyzed. I believed that we are more than being logical, we are greater
than what most people think. That we are precious and more valuable compared to
what humans creates, which is the “scientific method” perhaps. Or even the
language of almost everything, “math” We are far more precious. Those were
created by the people like ourselves, and I believed that we are still greater
than what we (humans) made! We being a rational thinker is not so much a bad
thing since it is how we do our daily tasks and solve most of the problems. Yet
again, we should not make our reasoning be the sole basis of our judgement. Let
the “feeling” do its own way since we’re made to become humans and not robot.
Going back to the questions we have
in mind, about wisdom. Almost everything has answers yet many of us are still
sceptical, many of us doubts and mistrust. We were given options to choose what
really is right and wrong. What really is correct and false. But even so, what
really becomes right is what you believe is right, What really is correct
depends on what you believe. It is somehow relative to how a person sees the
world. I think respect is what we need. Since even though we were feed with
many proofs and to believe and think in a certain way, there will still be
divergent among us. I personally believe that science can’t answer everything,
it is just my hunch (based on my statement above). There’s this space of doubts
in my mind, waiting to be filled with the truth someday, which I believed only
the Almighty God can reveal. Some were given answers but in human perspectives,
it will always be not enough. Which I consider a mystery, left out to be
unanswered.
